I participated in #PitchDis in June 2021, pitching a middle-grade historical fiction manuscript. This was the first full-length manuscript I’d ever written and my first venture in the world of book publishing. I was thrilled that a handful of literary agents and small press publishers liked my tweets. I queried everyone interested in the story, which eventually led to multiple publishing offers. Long story short, my debut novel, Not Lucille, was published in 2025, thanks to the networking opportunities afforded by #PitchDis.

PitchDis was one of the most successful and helpful pitch events I've taken part in. Pitching on Twitter/Bluesky has always been hit or miss for me, especially because I'm not very active on social media so I don't have a large following, but the way PitchDis is structured allowed me to feel like I actually had a chance at sharing my manuscript--and more than that, it took away the insecurity and comparison that comes with pitching on a website designed around an algorithm. The agent I signed with through PitchDis actually wasn't even on my radar because I didn't realize she took my genre, but when I got a PitchDis invite to query her I took it, and got a request within a day! A couple months later I got the email to set up a call, and though I had another offer at the time, I knew from the call that she was 100% my first choice. I honestly feel incredibly lucky that I was able to sign with her, and even luckier that, a year later, we've sold my debut. I wouldn't have had this chance without PitchDis, and I'm so happy I didn't miss out.

#PitchDis 2024 was my first foray into querying for the book I'd been working on that year, and it seemed like a great way to test if the pitch worked while also being a really welcoming and easy-to-navigate event. Luckily I received a few requests, and the agent I would later sign with was the first to request a partial, only a few days later. They weren't open to queries at all that fall, so I'm glad this event provided the chance to connect! I'm very happy working with them, and the book is currently out on submission.
